Captain Chris Hsiung commands the Special Operations Division at the Mountain View Police Department in Northern California. Since 2012 he has managed the department social media strategy, platforms, and engagement with the community. Chris blogs for the IACP Center for Social Media, writes articles for various publications, and has spoken at numerous conferences across the country on the topic of law enforcement’s use of social media to engage the community and manage crisis communications. Chris serves as the PIO Regional Vice Chair for the Southwest United States for the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). In addition, Chris is a social media instructor for the California POST Management Course and Social Ambassador for GovTechHe was recently recognized on the ELGL Chris Traeger "Top 100 Local Government Influencers" list for his work and influence on law enforcement social media. Chris has been serving the Mountain View community for over 21 years and has held a variety of assignments within MVPD. These include detective assignments in Property Crimes, Person Crimes, and High Tech Crimes as well as 13 years on the department SWAT team as an assault member, rappel master, sniper, and tactical commander. He is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Senior Executives in State and Local Government program and has a master’s degree in eBusiness Management from Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont,  CA.
